Board-level computer repair in Oakland & Alameda
Component-level diagnostics for selected laptop and computer logic-board problems, including power, charging, ports, and damaged circuitry.
Diagnosis first
Board-level repair looks below the replaceable module and into the circuitry itself. Depending on the device, that can include damaged charging circuits, shorted power rails, broken connectors, corrosion, failed components, and other faults on a laptop or computer logic board.
MEG performs selected microsoldering and board-level computer repairs in Oakland and Alameda. Not every board is a good candidate, so diagnosis and board condition matter.
What we check
Exact service depends on the model, condition, and parts available. These are some of the issues we regularly evaluate.
Shorted or missing power rails
Charging and USB-C power faults
Damaged ports, pads, and connectors
Corrosion and liquid-related board damage
Failed surface-mount components
No-power faults that trace to the logic board
Board problems where replacement is unavailable or uneconomical
Repair decisions
A board repair can make sense when a specific failed component or circuit can be identified and repaired reliably. It makes less sense when the board is extensively corroded, physically damaged across multiple layers, or the total repair approaches the value of the computer.
We evaluate the fault and explain whether component-level work is reasonable. When the main goal is data, preserving access to the original board may also be important on systems with integrated storage.
Bring the complete computer when possible, along with its charger. If another shop or technician has already worked on the board, tell us what was attempted and provide any removed parts if you have them.
How service works
Tell us the symptoms, what happened before they started, and whether your data is especially important.
We narrow down the likely failure and determine the practical repair options. Diagnostic charges apply based on the device and work required.
We explain the findings and expected cost before approved repair work moves forward.
Questions
It is repair of components and circuits on the motherboard or logic board rather than replacing the entire board as one part.
For selected devices and board designs, yes. We also repair some damaged pads, connectors, and nearby circuitry when the board remains serviceable.
No. It depends on diagnosis time, damage, parts, board availability, and the value of the computer. We recommend it when it is technically and economically sensible.
Sometimes. On systems where storage is integrated with the original logic board, repairing enough of the board to regain access can be part of the recovery strategy.
