Liquid damage computer repair in Oakland & Alameda

Computer Liquid Damage Repair

Diagnostics for laptops and computers exposed to spills, moisture, or corrosion. Early evaluation can help identify what was affected.

Diagnosis first

Liquid damage is a corrosion problem as much as a spill problem.

A computer may continue working after a spill and fail later as residue and corrosion affect connectors, power circuits, keyboards, trackpads, and the logic board. Powering the device repeatedly can make a damaged circuit worse.

MEG evaluates liquid-damaged laptops and computers in Oakland and Alameda, including cases where the priority is repair, data recovery, or simply understanding how much of the machine was affected.

What we check

Common problems and repair areas.

Exact service depends on the model, condition, and parts available. These are some of the issues we regularly evaluate.

Visible liquid residue and corrosion

Keyboard and trackpad damage

Charging and no-power faults

Shorted or damaged board components

Display and backlight issues after a spill

Battery and connector condition

Data-recovery options if the computer is not economical to repair

Repair decisions

Do not keep testing a wet or recently spilled computer.

If the spill just happened, disconnect power when it is safe to do so and stop trying to turn the computer on. Rice does not remove conductive residue or corrosion from internal electronics.

After inspection, we can separate cosmetic or replaceable damage from board-level damage and explain whether repair is practical. If the data matters more than the computer, that changes the priorities and should be stated at check-in.

What to bring

Bring the computer and charger. Tell us what liquid was spilled, roughly how much, where it entered, whether the machine was powered on afterward, and whether the data is important.

How service works

From check-in to a clear next step.

01

Check in the computer

Tell us the symptoms, what happened before they started, and whether your data is especially important.

02

Diagnosis

We narrow down the likely failure and determine the practical repair options. Diagnostic charges apply based on the device and work required.

03

Approve the next step

We explain the findings and expected cost before approved repair work moves forward.

Questions

Computer Liquid Damage Repair FAQ

Should I put a liquid-damaged laptop in rice?

No. Rice does not clean internal residue or stop corrosion. The more useful step is to stop powering the computer and have it inspected.

The laptop still works after the spill. Should I keep using it?

Continuing to use it can allow corrosion or a developing short to worsen. If the spill reached the computer, evaluation is safer than assuming it is fine.

Can you repair corrosion on the motherboard?

Selected board-level corrosion and component damage can be repaired, depending on severity, access, and the condition of the board.

Can you recover my data if the computer is not worth repairing?

Often, yes. The recovery method depends on the storage design and whether the drive or logic board was affected.
